Workers
at a footwear factory near the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh have been
out on strike for more than two weeks, demanding a pay rise of $9 a
month.
The union estimates 1,000 workers have been out since November 15, but
the management at the Global Footwear factory said it was more like 300.
The wage rise would take workers from $61 to $70, "like the other nearby
factories", according to a union representative, who told the Phnom
Penh Post that they would continue to strike until the wage rise was
agreed.
However, a factory representative said their demands were impossible, and has yet to hold talks with the union.
